Text File

• file does not contain an image
• cannot be read using graphics programs like PhotoShop
• Data is TEXT, no binary characters,
• can be read or edited using word processor
• need special modeling software to visualize structure

Two Parts

• Descriptive Header
  • Literature Info
  • Sequence Data
  • Structural Info (helix, sheets, disulfide bonds)
• Atomic Coordinates
  • X,Y,Z coordinates for each atom in structure
  • Surrounding solvent often shows up, Water, Sulfate, phosphate
  • No Hydrogens in structure
