Look is used mainly for displaying molecular structures and predicting protein structure. It is especially good at multiple sequence alignment and showing the relationship between sequence and structure.
Look also has a hypertext electronic lab notebook built in so you can easily make notes of the work you do, and easily refer back to each structure
It cannot do
If you need to do this, try a program like Insight, Sybyl, Dock, or Autodock.
Image Output Format
Rasmol can write output files in GIF, PostScript, PICT formats. The resolution is not as good as with other programs like Sybyl, Insight, VMD, Raster3D.
How do I run it?
Look runs on the SGI computers, loop, turn, coil. There is a version called MacLook that runs on Macintosh computers, but we don't have it installed.
You can access Look on the SGI machines by logging in and typing
