RESEARCH

Adipose tissue (fat) deposits at different sites in our bodies have distinct molecular programs and physiological roles.  How do the gene expression programs of the adipocytes (fat cells) and other cells in adipose tissue differ from site to site?  What do these differences suggest about their physiological specialization, hormonal regulation and distinct roles in energy metabolism?  Are the adipocytes at each site intrinsically different in their origins and differentiation?
