DNA as a string: This animated GIF was taken from data recorded on a video microscope
equipped with epi-fluorescence optics and optical tweezers. The image you see is of
a single DNA molecule from lambda phage, one end of which has been attatched to a microscope slide.
The other end is affixed to a latex bead which is being moved in a circular fashion about the "center".
The stationary dots are immobilized DNA molecules in their natural tangled state. This work was done
while in the Matsudaira lab at
the Whitehead Institute. As with lots of experiments
this research was never published and was made a bit obsolite by the genome project.
