(a) Each gene is present in the list of 1364 L1 muscle genes (p<0.001).  Together with the 16 positive controls (see S-Table 2),
 there are a total of 47 genes in the list of 1364 "muscle-expressed" genes for which there is evidence in the literature of there being expressed in muscle.
(b) The list of 1364 L1 muscle genes was searched for genes with expression patterns previously described in sufficient detail
to ascertain muscle expression.  Previous data either support (+) our findings that the gene is expressed in muscle, or do not (-).
(c) The key to the expression patterns is: SM= striated muscle, N= Neurons, P= Pharynx, I= Intestine, SPT= Spermatheca, UN=Unknown,
 H= Hypodermis, IM= intestinal muscles, SG= Somatic Gonad, AM= All Muscles, DTC= Distal Tip Cells, EC= Excretory Cells,
NU= Nearly Ubiquitous, ADM= Anal Depressor Muscle, D=Dauer, BWMS=body wall muscle.
