VxInsight validation: pathway dependence
To test whether the order in which the genes are analyzed affects the final clustering of the gene expression mountains, we generated new gene expression terrain maps using 20 random starting positions. We compared these results by calculating the 200 nearest neighbors for each gene in each ordination, and then determined the overlap between the new ordinations with the original ordination presented in the paper.
The graph shows that there is a large amount of overlap in neighboring genes using different starting positions from the same data set. The results are very significantly different (p<<0.001) from what would be expected if the new starting positions created neighbors at random.
